Alice the daughter of Herman and Anna (Hubmer) Kumerow, was born January 27, 1907, in Waterbury Township, Lamberton, Minnesota. She attended school at District 110 near her home and was a high school graduate. She attended a year of teachers college in Hamberton, MN, and taught school at District 110, near her home.
On December 3, 1927, Alice was united in marriage with Lewis George Cox in Redwood Falls, MN. They would live in Redwood Falls and then Missouri for four years, moving to Newton in 1972. To this union were born eleven children. They farmed for many years, and Alice devoted her life to her family as a home maker. She was a member of a Lutheran Church in Missouri, First Assembly of God Church in Newton, The Golden Agers and volunteer of the Salvation Army and Bible studies. She made afghan for the "older" well into her 90's. Alice told her many friends that they were very special to God and to her. Age was never important to Alice "The joy of the Lord was her strength".
Alice's sense of humor was very keen, many times putting everyone into laughter. We wondered if she knew how delightfully funny her sharp mind responded to her sometimes mischievous children. Alice never stopped learning and prayed daily for others. She knew each days current events and would ask if you knew them too.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lewis; a daughter Darlene in infancy; her sons: Gene, Darrell in 2005 and Lavern in 2007; a grandson Lenny Cox; a great-granddaughter Taylor Griffith; her sisters: Amy Oelke, Grace Stephen and Cora Goerke; and two brothers: Clarence and Elmer.
Those left to honor Alice's memory include her sons and daughters-in-law: David Cox of Remer, MN, Bill & Nancy Cox of Austin, MN, Dale & Joy Cox of Fort Worth, TX and Larry Cox of Los Angeles, CA; her daughters and sons-in-law: Beverly & Kenneth Gibson of Winterset, Lorraine & James Cheatham of Jonesboro, AR and Donna & Bob Price of Franklin, TN; her twenty one grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and many friends.
Alice is with Jesus in her Mansion over the hilltop. Her newer favorite song was "I Can Only Imagine". She doesn't have to imagine anymore. Her celebration in her new home has just begun!
