I am thankful for Mrs. Vogelaar. She was an amazing encouragement to me on her quiet way. I remember many Sunday dinners at her table during the 2 years of my ministry in Newton. She loved Jesus and she cared about me. At first meeting Mr. & Mrs. Vogelaar, I would not have guessed that they would leave a on me. I thank God for them.

Betty was a very godly mother. I remember seeing her many times standing in her kitchen with her hands clasped together and eyes closed in prayer. Even when praying to her Savior, she had a warm and very serene smile. Her loving concern for others, while taking those concerns to God in prayer, are still an example for me.

Betty is my sister-in-law, Ruth's Mother. The first time I visited Betty and her late husband, Earl when they both lived in Newton they were so happy to visit with me. Both of them loved hearing my stories from my driver experiences out on the road. The smiles on their faces were contagious. My brother, Lanny Harris was very lucky to be a part of the Vogalaar family. Betty was a devoted Christian, as well as Earl. Earl and Betty are together again in Heaven. I'm sure they are holding hands like love birds forever together.

I only knew Betty for a short time but she was always a bright spot in my day. She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She was such an inspiration to me as she wanted to learn about something new each time I was with her. I love how she loved the simple pleasures in life; whether it was just riding around town in the car with Ruth just to be out and about, or a shoulder massage from Lanny, or Lily simply walking in the room. I have a lot of good memories of Betty, but my favorite one is that so many times, even as she was sleeping, she had a peaceful smile on her face. I am so fortunate to have known this very special woman and she will be greatly missed.
