He was Brian's tennis coach and I've heard many stories. He must have had a high tolerance and patience as those boys were ornery! He's been sitting here telling me funny memories this morning after reading this. I was in FCA in the 80s. A great man and a great loss. Our condolences.

Mr. Wiley was an amazing teacher and person. He was one of my only teachers who had both myself (Class of 1990) and my parents (Class of 1968) before me. Whenever I saw him after high school he would ask how I was doing and how were my parents doing, always with a smile on his face. He was truly one of the kindest and nicest people I have every known. I had Mr. Wiley for American History in my junior year. He knew of my keen interest in American history (which persists today) and I always appreciated his insight and patience during our conversations on the American Civil War, and with my MANY questions. One memory I have is that he came to school one day with his ankles in casts as he had broken them BOTH cross country skiing the weekend before. This was difficult for him as he liked to move around the classroom while teaching!! Peace and grace to the Wiley family and Godspeed to Mr. Wiley. A good guy… a master educator… and one of a number of teachers in my life whose impact is still felt. Thank you, Mr. Wiley. Rest well…

Condolences to Mary and family. I retain fond memories of political debates with him, and I always told him I felt he was a “closet Democrats,” to which he would just give that Clyde grin. His “letters to the editor” in the Newton Daily News were many, but eventually, Mary put a stop to that. :-). And who could forget the creative joke his colleague Jack Chadwick played on him - a golf film in a social studies class. His presence at the teacher breakfast gathering at Hy-Vee provided much banter and fellowship. I will miss this friend and colleague, but memories will linger. Perhaps the quote: “Aspire to inspire before expiring” seems a fitting tribute to Clyde.
