Amanda: My wife and I are mostly retired. We just returned from a trip to Florida, and only yesterday checked our voicemail on our home phone.
That is when we first learned from your voicemail that your Dad passed away a month ago. We are both saddened to hear the news. I am sorry for your loss.
Fred (Freight Train) and I have been friends for years. We played softball in Wilton for 10 years (??) as the Scorpions. We went from the worst team in the league to one of the best, finally beating the cursed Doc's Sowbelly teams in our last season!!!
After a game, win or lose, we would go to the Wooden Nickel and drink beer and play pool. Great times. Great memories.
After we got too old to play softball, we watched the beloved Hawkeyes on TV in your Dad's man caves-first in Durant and then in Newton. Our mutual friend, Jim Weaver, always went with me. Your Dad has the only man cave I know of with an actual urinal for us men guys!! And he proudly displayed the Scorpion ball caps and softballs in the cave.
Again, I am sorry for the loss of your Dad. And my friend.
I, too, will miss him.
John Wunder, Muscatine.
