Obituary of Joanne Lesley Philbin

Joanne Lesley Philbin, 63, the daughter of Richard and Joan (Welch) Miller, was born August 24, 1959, on a US Airforce Base in England.  She was a high school graduate.  Joanne was a Senior Claims Rep. for Grinnell Mutual Insurance in Grinnell, Iowa, for nineteen years, retiring in 2020.

   On September 7, 2002, she was united in marriage to Edward Philbin in Newton.  She was a member of the Four-Square Church in Newton, and active in NA, AA and at Discover Hope in Newton.   

Joanne enjoyed sharing her life with her husband Ed and family. 

   Joanne died on Tuesday afternoon, May 16, 2023, at the Comfort House in Pella.  She was preceded in death by her father Richard. 

   A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Four-Square Church in Newton.  Memorials are being designated in Joanne’s name, with checks made out to Ed. 

   Those left to honor the memory of Joanne’s include her husband Ed; her son Richard Miller of Newton; her seven grandchildren: Daimon, Ashlyn, Sierra, Neveyn, Griffin, Vivian and Willow; her mother Joan Miller of Grinnell; her five sisters: Sue Brit of Wannamaker, NV, Wanda Jones of Chicago, Debbie Miller of Albia, Susan Lassiter of Smithland, KY, Sharon Miller of Grinnell; and her many good neighbors and friends.
