Helen Frances George, 90, passed away Monday morning, April 4, 2011, at the Careage of Newton. Graveside services and burial for Helen will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Newton Union Cemetery's Veteran's Section. Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers: memorials in Helen's name are being designated to First Assemble of God Church.
Helen, the daughter of Frank and Jennie Mable (Spahn) Ogg, was born September 20, 1920, in Newton. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, Class of 1938. She was employed by the Vernon Company as a secretary for Mr. Vernon, and later as a secretary at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1983.
On July 9, 1958, Helen was united in marriage with Bernard Thornton George in Princeton, Missouri. Helen devoted her life to her family, and enjoyed cooking baking "chocolate chip cookies for grandchildren" and attending and watching her children and grandchildren in their sports activities. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bernard on April 16, 1992; two brothers: Wilbur and Donald Ogg; and a sister Frances Ogg.
Those left to honor Helen's memory include her daughter Merrilee George of Newton; her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Cheryl George of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: Jim (Jamie) George, their children: Wyatt and Aaron; Jeff (Nicole) George, their children: Dominic Kassing, Austin and Abby; Justin (Jessica) George, their children: Aidan and Max; and Jill (Rick) Hartzell, their son Jackson Hartzell; Helen's sister-in-law Carolyn Ogg of Newton; and many friends.
