Obituary of Dennis Sanford Carpenter

Dennis Sanford Carpenter, the son of Kenneth and Harriet (Stot) Carpenter, was born October 8, 1940, in Pella, Iowa.  He graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1959.  Denny then went on to graduate from A.I.B. in Des Moines.

Denny served in the Iowa National Guard from 1962-1969.  He worked for Jasper County for over 30 years.  He was elected to the Jasper County Board of Supervisors in 2002. He was re-elected in 2010, 2014, 2018, and most recently in 2022. Denny loved working for the voters and took great pride in being a watchdog of taxpayer money. He was highly respected by many at the courthouse and in county government. Denny had many interests in life ranging from drag racing, sprint car racing, and making a superb cheesecake.  Denny was a member of the Newton Church of the Way.

Denny died on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Newton Village Healthcare in Newton, Iowa.  He was 82 years old.  Those left to honor Denny’s memory include his sister, Karla Wingar and his many friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Hewitt Cemetery in rural Sully, Iowa.   A Facebook Live Broadcast will begin at 11:00 am on the Pence Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Services Facebook page.  A time celebrating Denny’s life will be from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm Thursday at the Jasper County Community Center.  Memorials may be designated in Denny’s name to the Newton Christian School and may be left at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
