Obituary of Mary Pritchard

Mary Pritchard, 99, the daughter of Donaciano and Maria (Barcena) Muñoz, was born August 1, 1923, in Valley Junction, Iowa.  On May 16, 1942, Mary was united in marriage with Robert Pritchard. She moved to Newton with her family from West Des Moines, Iowa in 1949. She had devoted her life to her family, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Society and United Mexican American Community Center in Des Moines. After raising her family, Mary worked for Rock Communications for several years. She enjoyed Mexican cooking, babysitting and square dancing with Bob for 18 years.

Mary died early Friday morning, November 18, 2022 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert on December 8, 2019, brothers Joe Muñoz, Lupe Muñoz, Manuel Muñoz, and Dick Muñoz, sisters Carmen Luevano, and Vigie Fry, half-brothers Manuel Muñoz and Tomas Muñoz and sons-in-law Richard Bough and Randy Starbeck.

Mary is survived by her children Anita Bough of Indianola, Iowa, Michael (Linda) Pritchard of Newton, Iowa, Lorie Pritchard of Grinnell, Iowa and Monica (Jim) Skokan of Newton, Iowa, her six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren, brothers John Muñoz, Phillip (Evelyn) Muñoz and many extended family and friends.

A Rosary will be conducted on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton with a visitation to follow from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to Mary Pritchard Memorial (please make checks payable to Lorie Pritchard).
