Obituary of Henrietta Bergstrom

Henrietta “Hinky” Bergstrom, the daughter of Rienk and Wilma (Gras) Barwegen, was born October 8, 1934, in Leevwarden, Holland.

Henrietta came to the United States when she was 14 years old.  Henrietta married and to this union, their son, Herbert “Randy” was born.  Henrietta had worked many years cleaning the homes and caring for the elderly in the community.  She later worked for the State of Iowa Liquor Commission and later Progress Industries, helping care for clients.  In her spare time, she enjoyed being a part of bowling leagues and doing things with many friends.

Henrietta died on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.  She was 88 years old.  Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents and her brother and sister-in-law, John and Petronella Barwegen.

Those left to honor Henrietta’s memory include her son, Herb (Sheree) Bergstrom (Ankeny); her grandson’s, whom she was very proud of, Ben Bergstrom (Ankeny) and Blake (Chelsea) Bergstrom (Bondurant) and her nieces, Winnie Rye and Nancy Barwegen.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Newton Union Cemetery.  Memorials may be designated to Progress Industries and may be left at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home or mailed to:  Pence-Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E, Newton, Iowa  50208.
