Mary M. Zahurones

Mary, of Baxter, passed from this life on Sunday afternoon, January 30, 2022.

Mary Margaret Zahurones, 84, was born July 27, 1938, on her family's farm, near Baxter, the daughter of Wade Franklin and Donna Alice (Welch) Cross. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School and attended Iowa State University in Ames and Rock Valley in Rockford, Illinois, with studies in Home Economics and Accounting.

On September 1, 1958, Mary was united in marriage to Charles Francis Zahurones. Together they were blessed with three children: Cindy, Melody and Dale. Mary was employed by the Treasury Department. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing. Mary was a loving wife, mother, and friend; she will be missed by those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Barbara Ann Cross and brother Samuel Robert Cross.

Mary is survived by her husband Charles; her children: Cindy (Craig) Williams, Melody (Jerre) Carr, Dale (Beth) Zahurones; her nine grandchildren: Steven (Brooke) Williams, Tadd (Shawna) Carr, Stephanie (Colin) Herr, Magen Carr, Brandy (Tim) Buerkle, Emily Zahurones, Wade Zahurones, Carlee Zahurones and Holly Zahurones; ten great-grandchildren; and her many extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30am, Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Baxter Congregational Church. Visitation is planned 5pm until 7pm, Friday, at the Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family, in Mary's name or a charity of your choosing. Burial will be in the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
