Obituary of James Laverne Myrick

James Laverne Myrick, 62, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Memorial services for Jim will be Saturday, February 19, 2011, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newton, Rev. Merle Smith, Chaplain at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, will officiate. Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. In LIEU of flowers, memorials in Jim's name are being designated.
Jim was born Aug. 25, 1948 in Newton, the son of Charles L. and Mildred I. (Hobbs) Myrick. He graduated from Newton Senior High, and attended college at U.N.I. and Iowa State. He served his country with the US Air Force, during the Vietnam era. A longtime resident of Newton, he had lived in Las Vegas, as well as Marshalltown.
Jim was employed as a kitchen storekeeper at the Nevada Test Site, North of Las Vegas. He enjoyed his family and friends, his photography, and a longtime member of AA.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John E. Myrick.
Those left to honor Jim's memory include his brother Charles LeRoy Myrick of Newton; two nephews and a niece; and many friends.
The funeral will be at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 223 E. 4th Street N.
Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery, Newton.
