Obituary of Marie Anna Thomas

Marie Anna Thomas, the daughter of Frank and Isabella (Casper) Pentico was born November 11, 1905, in Woodward, Iowa where she attended school. Marie was 13 when WWI ended. She moved from Woodward to Newton in 1928. On February 27, 1929, Marie was united in marriage to Herbert Thomas in Newton. She worked for Newton Manufacturing, was a waitress for service clubs at Midtown Café, worked in assembly at Vernon Company and helped at the Newton School lunch program. Marie was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Margaret Rebekah Lodge through which she received the Degree of Chivalry and served as Noble Grand. She was a member of the UAW Auxiliary, the 20+ Club and the Birthday Club. Marie loved her family and enjoyed traveling, crocheting, tatting, sewing, and gardening. On Saturday, December 11, 2010, Marie died at the Careage of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herbert Thomas in 1971, grandson Jeff in 1968, daughter-in-law Maxine Thomas and 6 brothers. Those left to honor the memory of Marie Thomas include her five sons and families John (Violet) Thomas of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, their son Dr. David (Michele) Thomas with children Hanna and Lauren, Richard Thomas of Newton, Marvin (Arlene) Thomas of Newton their daughter Lyn Thomas and their son Douglas (Beth) Thomas with child Madison, Larry (Marge) Thomas of Killduff, their daughter Julie (Gary) Dodds with children Cameron and Hayley, their daughter Joanna Thomas and their daughter Mary (Dave) McPartlin their children Ashley, Landon, Conner and Kaitlin, Keith (Janet) Thomas of Farmington, Minnesota, their son Aaron (Jeni) Thomas with children Morgan and Everett, their daughter Karin Thomas and many nieces and nephews.
