Obituary of Vicki Lee McCarty

Vicki L. McCarty, 75, formerly of the Grinnell and Newton areas, passed away Sunday morning, February 7, 2021, at the Winterset Care Center North in Winterset. A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be held at a later date, and the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton have been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Vicki's family, or to a charity of your choosing. Vicki Lee McCarty, daughter of Rease Sullivan and Sarah Elizabeth (Tubbs) McCarty, was born August 19, 1945, in Corydon, Iowa. She was a high school graduate and graduated in 1965 from Marshalltown Community College, with a LPN Degree, as a nurse. Over the years she was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Grinnell Hospital for ten years, Mayflower Care Center for two years, St. Francis Manor for ten years, all in Grinnell and at Park Centre Care Center in Newton for a year. She enjoyed her family, crocheting and knitting. In 1990, she was united in marriage with Terry L. Mateson at the Nianza Park in Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Terry; a sister and brother-in-law Bernice and Dean Miller, a niece Linda Blackmere; and a nephew Phillip Tosten. Those left to honor Vicki's memory include her step-children: Ryan Rhodes, Mark Mattson, Emerson Mattson, Cindy Pricke and Robin McGahee; her sister Cleo (Norman) Tosten; her nieces: Susan Tosten and Nancy (Kevin) Nygren; several great-nieces; and her many friends.
