Ruth passed away Wednesday morning, June 10, 2020, at the Comfort House in Pella.
A Private family time of remembrance and celebration of life will be Monday, June 15, 2020, at Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to Pella Comfort House Hospice or Salvation Army Food Bank.
Ruth Ann Jones, 89, was born July 10, 1930, in Newton.The daughter of Theodore Roosevelt and Perle Leona (McGriff) Queen, she graduated from Newton Senior High, Class of 1948. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Jasper County Savings Bank (now US Bank), retiring after seventeen years, in 1984.
On July 11, 1948, Ruth Ann was united in marriage to Donald Edward Jones in Newton, Iowa. Together they last resided at Newton Village. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Jasper County Concert Association, Jasper County Historical Society, Camp Fire Girls as a Bluebird leader, and former board member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Ruth loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening, cooking, attending concerts and theatre and traveling.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Nancy (Jay) Kettering of Ecuador; grandson Matthew (Greta) Moshiri of England; three great-grandsons: Finn, Jasper and Oscar Moshiri; many nieces and nephews; a special friend Nasrin Moshiri in Tulsa, OK; and cousins in Washington State. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald on July 23, 2011; her daughter Kathy Ann Jones on December 14, 2019; and her brothers: Charles E. Queen and Thomas H. Queen.
