Obituary of Gene Buckley

Funeral services for Gene I. Buckley of rural Monroe, will be, 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2019 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home of Newton. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Funeral Home. Gene Buckley, 92, the son of Ivan J. and Goldie M. Buckley, was born July 1, 1927 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A lifelong resident of the Newton and Monroe areas, he graduated from the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1945. Gene served his country with the US Army, 1946-48. He was the past vice president of Newton Manufacturing, and farmed for twenty plus years North of Monroe, prior to retirement. On December 14, 1947, Gene was united in marriage with Shirley A. Adams in the Christian Church in Newton. Gene devoted his life to his wife and enjoyed his antique tractors. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Gene died on Tuesday, December 18, 2019 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley of June 11, 2008; and his sisters, Doris Kool and Miriam Piper. Those left to honor Gene’s memory include his niece and nephews and his many good neighbors and friends. Memorials in Gene’s name are being designated to Wesley Life Hospice or Iowa Alzheimer’s Association for research.
