Obituary of Kathy Ann Jones

Kathy A. Jones Kathy, 68, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 14, 2019, at the Iowa Veteran’s Medical Center in Des Moines. A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. A light lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., in the Pence Tribute Center. Following the luncheon, burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to ALS Association-Iowa Chapter or DAR-Grinnell Chapter. Kathy Ann Jones, 68, the daughter of Donald Edward and Ruth Ann (Queen) Jones, was born January 1, 1951, in Newton. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, Class of 1969. She received her BA degree in Physical Education from the University of Northern Iowa, a BS Nursing degree from the University of Iowa and a certificate of photography from Des Moines Area Community College. Kathy served her country for 23 years with the U.S. Army (Active and Reserves units 8930th and 4224th). During that time she was stationed in multiple locations, including Germany and Virginia (Vietnam era), retiring in 1996 with rank of Major. She continued working as a Registered Nurse at the Iowa Veteran's Medical Center in Des Moines, retiring in 2008. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) as a Lifetime Member, American Legion Post #111, Disabled American Veterans, Jasper County Genealogy Society, Newton Historical Preservation Commission, Arts Council (as a board member), and a Sculpture Festival volunteer. She enjoyed genealogy, photography and traveling. Kathy was preceded in death by her father Donald Jones. Kathy is survived by her mother Ruth Ann Jones of Newton; her sister Nancy (Jay) Kettering of Ecuador; a nephew Matthew (Greta) Moshiri of England; great nephews Finn, Jasper and Oscar Moshiri; her special friend Kris Macy and many cousins.
