Obituary of John Arthur Madin

John "Jack" Arthur Madin, 98, was born October 8, 1920, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Dalcy Holdsworth. He was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, Class of 1939, and served his country in China-Burma-India campaign, with the US Army, as a Staff Sgt. during World War II. On April 10, 1946, Jack was united in marriage with V. "Aileene" Marshall in Newton. For over 47.1 years he was employed by the Maytag Company as a shipping clerk, 1939 – 1886, retiring as a Senior Superintendent of Receiving and Transportation at Plant II. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a member of the First Christian Church, and past member of Maytag Management Club, board of directors, Maytag Employee Council, OSHA Task Force, Plant 2 Chairman of the United Way Fund Drive and Newton Masonic Lodge #59. He was the director of the old Maytag Softball League when it began in 1946, and the intra-plant league in 1971. He also served as the Treasurer of the Newton Park Board and was instrumental in the organization of the Newton Little League program in 1952. Jack of Newton, passed from this life on Sunday afternoon, May 26, 2019, at Newton Health Care. Jack is survived by his daughter Carol D. (James) Macksey of Newton; two granddaughters: Sarah Macksey (Rick Cline) of Omaha and Paula (Aaron) Odekirk of Boone and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Dalcy; his wife Aileene on Jan. 13, 1996; and his grandparents who raised him: George "Tom" and Clara Holdsworth. A time of Remembrance and Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2019, at the First Christian Church in Newton. Burial was at Newton Union Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church just prior to the services and at lunch following. Pence~Reese Funeral Home, in Newton, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Jack's family, the First Christian Church or a charity of your choosing.
