Marvin L. Bishop
Marvin, a longtime resident of the Newton area, passed away on April 22, 2019, in Memphis,Tennessee.
A time of remembrance will be 1:00 p.m., for an hour, Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a graveside service and interment at 2:30 p.m., at the Canfield Cemetery in Ivy. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to Marvin’s family.
Marvin Lowellin Bishop, 78, the son of Elton O. and Lois M. (Lowellin) Bishop, was born May 28, 1940, in Polk County, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Carlisle Senior High School, and had served his country with the Iowa National Guard, for several years.
On June 18, 1976, Marvin was united in marriage with Gloria A. (Heyveld) Bishop, in Newton. He was employed by the Parson Company and Maytag Company, both of Newton. A member of the Local #33 Pipefitters and Welders Union, retiring in 2009, and a member of Local #997. During the 1960’s and 70’s, Marvin repaired and rebuilt Harley Davidsons. He enjoyed the outdoors, all wildlife, hunting, fishing, playing slots, watching TV, and spending time with family, living life to the fullest.
Marvin is survived by his wife Gloria of Newton; his sons: Carl Bishop and Tim (Rizza) Bishop, both of Batesville, Arkansas; his daughter Melinda “Mindy” Bishop (Jerred Miller); his eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister Joyce Lowry of Oklahoma; a brother Elton Bishop II in Missouri; and many good neighbors and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Melissa “Missy” Dawn Bishop; a grandson Tyler; and a sister Joette Watson.
