Obituary of Shirley Ann Barr

Shirley Ann Barr, the daughter of Thurman Edwin and Gladoline Fern (Shickell) Streeter, was born October 11, 1937. Shirley was united in marriage with Joseph Franklin Barr on June 18, 1966 in Baxter, Iowa. Shirley spent most of her years as a homemaker but had worked for a short time at Newton Manufacturing and the Kellogg Country Store. She was also a longtime Avon Lady.
Shirley loved her family and was very involved in their lives. She was also very community minded and enjoyed being a part of the Kellogg community. She was a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, the Kellogg United Methodist Women, and the Rushville Women. She also served as both a Cub Scout and Camp Fire leader. She enjoyed making meals for the Kellogg Lions Club, making cakes and mints and cooking for her family, canning, making and eating candies, working on various craft projects, and loving on her grandkids.
Shirley died on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Newton Village in Newton, Iowa. She was 80 years old. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters, Delores Jay, Carolyn Mathre and Judy Astleford and three brothers, Gary Streeter, Donald Streeter and Larry Streeter.
Those left to honor Shirley’s memory include her husband of 52 years, Frank Barr; her children, Randall Rawlins, Rhonda Rawlins, Joleen (Brad) Hansen and Michelle Winther; her grandchildren, Shawna, Colton, Clayton, Kenna, Camden and Isabella and her brother, Ronald Streeter; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. The family will also greet friends and have coffee time after burial at Our Silent City Cemetery at the Kellogg United Methodist Church. Memorials may be designated to the Kellogg United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
