My memories of Uncle Bob are dear ones. He loved to drive and could do so for hours on end. He drove his family for a trip to Washington to visit my Dad and I think he went almost nonstop as I recall!
He liked to sit quietly and read his paper after a long day at work.
He patiently took care of his parents in their later years.
When all the cousins appeared on his doorstep for visits, his house was full to the brim with kids running around. We caught fireflies in the backyard and ran through sprinklers or went to the pool. He bore this frenzied activity with fortitude and good grace.
We had rides in his various cars and drove to see the sights around Newton. My favourite was the TR3. Driving to Pella to the bakery was a ritual activity. Every one of us remembers getting the treats with Uncle Bob and Grandma and Grandpa and all the cousins. He had a love of his family history and could always be counted on the recollect the lineage of the Van Drimmelen's.
" What is life?
It is the flash of firefly in the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.
It is the little shadow which runs through the grass
And loses itself in the sunset."
From Chief Crowfoot ( 1830-1890)
Always in my memories,
Anne

And once upon a time, in the great state of Iowa, there were three children growing up on a farm not unlike others in the area. Bob was the youngest of the three and loved to kid his big sister and brother! As my uncle, he was always great to be around. I did not totally appreciate his love of cars until later in life when I understood how special they all were. Rest in peace Uncle Bob!

We really enjoyed seeing Bob and Shawna at the clinic. He was always such a gentleman, very friendly, and sure loved that dog! He always liked to stay for a few minutes and visit with staff. He loved to tell the story about the two white cats he had as a child. We will really miss their visits. Our sympathy to the family.
