Obituary of Francis Michael Brindza

Francis “Frank” Michael Brindza, the son of Michael Patrick and Anna (Luckacs) Brindza, was born September 14, 1926, in Johnstown, PA.  He graduated from the Johnstown Senior High School with the class of 1944.  Frank served in the U.S. Army toward the end of World War II and was stationed in Korea.  Following his time in the service, he went to electrical school in Chicago, IL to become a journeyman electrician, and while there, he met Mary Lou Depperman.  They were married on June 25, 1949 in Johnstown, PA.

Frank and Mary moved to Newton, IA where Frank began his career with the Maytag Company.  He retired in 1990 after 41 years of service.  Frank loved his family.  He was very proud of building his own home for his family.  He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he had served in many areas including, a Eucharistic minister, the SHARE program, funeral dinners and taught 2nd graders prayers.  Following his retirement, Frank enjoyed golfing and traveling with Mary.  He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #997 retiree’s union.

Frank died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was 91 years old.  Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Francis Brindza and a sister, Rita Spampinato.

Those left to honor Frank’s memory include his wife, Mary Brindza; his daughters, Linda (Greg) O’Toole, Patricia (Dave) Hoff, Carol Brindza, Barbara (Mike) Mickelson; his twelve grandchildren, Michael Brindza, Jason (Summer) Brindza, Shawn Brindza, Vanessa (Chad) Wunderlich, Jeremy (Megan) Cook, Whitney (Matt) Welp, Rachel (Tyler) Christensen, Jeffrey (Heather) O’Toole, Ryan (Maggie) O’Toole, Christopher (Jordan) Hoff, Elizabeth (Drew) Klein, Jennifer (Craig) Weber; his seventeen great grandchildren and his sister, Betty Rozich-Kinnel.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, July 27, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.  The family will greet friends from 5:30 – 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the church.  A public vigil service will begin at 7:00 pm, Thursday.  Memorials may be designated to the Newton Village Ability Bike Fund or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
