Obituary of Virgil C. Kling III

Virgil C. Kling III, the son of Virgil C. Kling, Jr and Vicki LaNay Van Cleave, was born August 21, 1975 in Knoxville, Iowa.  Virgil graduated from the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1994.  He went on to receive an Associate of Arts degree from Trinity Bible College in 1996 and a degree in Criminal Justice from DMACC in 1998. 

On September 9, 2000 Virgil was united in marriage with Amy Renae Walter in Newton, Iowa.  Virgil worked as a mail clerk at the Newton Correctional Facility for nineteen years and was currently working at the Mitchellville Correctional Facility.  Virgil was a former member of the First Assembly of God in Newton and was very involved with Royal Rangers, both as a participant growing up and as an adult leader, having achieved the highest honor of Gold Medal and National Ranger of the Year.  He was a current member at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines where he served as a group leader in PowerLife.  Virgil enjoyed playing football in high school and while at Trinity.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and camping.  He was an avid NASCAR and Chicago Bears fan.  Virgil also enjoyed collecting stamps, coins and toys.  He loved his family and enjoyed coaching his boys in flag football and basketball.

Virgil died on October 17, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center West Lakes in West Des Moines, Iowa.  He was 42 years old.  Those left to honor Virgil’s memory include his wife, Amy, of West Des Moines; his sons, Spencer and Carter; his parents, Virgil, Jr. and Vicki Kling of Kellogg, IA; his sister, Amy (Jason) Jorgenson of Altoona, IA; his brother, Adam (Natascha) Kling of Flagstaff, AZ; his nieces, Morgan, Mallory, Madisyn, Eden and Delia; his nephew, Johnathan; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Jane Walter of Newton, IA; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chris and Debi Walter of Andover, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday October 20th at First Assembly of God in Newton.  The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the church.  Memorials may be designated to Virgil’s boys and may be made to Amy Kling and may be left at the church or at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
