Obituary of Darrell L Montgomery

Darrell L. Montgomery, the son of George E. and Ruth GeLene (Schutte) Montgomery, was born January 11, 1945 in Newton, Iowa. He attended country schools. On October 24, 1975, Darrell was united in marriage with Judy Gragg Montgomery in Montezuma, Iowa. Darrell worked for Midwest Manufacturing as a hot punch operator, and also spent many years farming. In his spare time he enjoyed horses and mules, farming, and spending time with his friends and family. Darrell passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at his home. He was 72 years old. Darrell was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; a grandson, Austin Gragg; two brothers, Raymond, Paul (infancy) and a sister Barbara (infancy). Those left to honor Darrell’s memory include his wife, Judy of Newton; his son, Bill (Jennifer) Gragg of Newburg, IA; his daughter, Amy (Tony) Alter of Newton, IA; his grandchildren: Josie Jacobs, Chelsea Alter, Jessica Jacobs, Jordan Gragg and Taylor Alter; his brother, William “Bill” (Jan) Montgomery and his sister, Joanne (Larry) Anderson, special "uncle" Dean (Pat) Schutte, a special friend and farm buddy, Colleen Illingworth, along with several nieces, nephews, & cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated in Darrell’s name and may be left at the funeral home.
