Helen White, 89, formerly of Newton, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016, in Grand Rapids, MI.
A Time of Remembrances will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers memorials have been designated in Helen’s name. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Helen Virginia Carter-White, the daughter of Elmer and Elsie (Lau) Carter, was born August 13, 1926, near Union, Iowa. She graduated from the Union-Whitten Senior High School, and attended Normal Training and Teacher’s College in Wayne, Nebraska.
On November 25, 1953, Helen was united in marriage with Delbert “Del” F. White in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. A longtime resident of the Newton area, she had moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2015, to be near her daughter. Helen devoted her life to her family and friends, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Helen enjoyed all crafts, sewing and cooking.
Those left to honor Helen’s memory include her daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Bruce Huseby of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sons and daughters-in-law: Douglas and Kris White of Altoona and Steve and Traci White of San Antonio, Texas; her eight grandchildren: Sarah, Scott, Lindsay, Stacy, Emily, Stephen, Brandon and Austin; and her great grandchildren: Ashley, Madison, Micah, Kiley; Brookelyn, Bentlie, Brody, Jackson, Noah, Caleb and Luke; and her many friends. Helen will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Del on June 3, 2004; and a brother Richard.
