Obituary of Frances Louise Hoffmann

Frances Louise Gast~Hoffman, 89, formerly of Steamboat Rock, IA, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015, at her home at Park Centre, under the care of Hospice. Frances, the daughter of John Carl and Marie Therese (Chaudot) Gast, was born August 21, 1925, in Steamboat Rock. She graduated from Steamboat Rock High School and later AIB in Des Moines. On August 4, 1947, Frances was united in marriage with Melvin Hoffman at the Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church. She devoted her life to her husband, children and family, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Melvin on March 25, 1971; her son Timothy Alan Hoffman; and her brothers: Roger, Maurice "Peanuts" Gast and Charles "Dallas" Gast. Those left to honor Frances' memory include her daughter Malia (Martin) Hicks of Kellogg; grandchildren: Douglas Alan (Johanna) Hicks and Megan Lauren Hicks (Jamie); two great grandchildren: Nic and Grace Roney; her sister-in-law Merriem Gast of Steamboat Rock; her many nieces and nephews; and many friends. A private graveside funeral services and burial for Frances will be at a later date, at the Steamboat Rock, Iowa Cemetery. The Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. No visitation with the family is planned. In lieu of flowers memorials in Frances' name: are being designated to First Presbyterian Churchs, in Steamboat Rock or Newton.
