Obituary of Martina J. Holmes

Martina Joye Holmes, the daughter of Benjamin C. and Ruth E. (Martz) Cobbs, was born December 31, 1932 in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1951. On June 20, 1954, Martina was united in marriage with Dwain Holmes in Newton, Iowa. She devoted her life to her husband and family. Martina had worked in sales for Joseph’s Fine Jewelry in Des Moines. She enjoyed arts and crafts, painting, tennis, bridge, yoga and interior decorating. Martina died on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was 82 years old. Those left to honor Martina’s memory include her husband, Dwain Holmes of Newton; her daughters, Marla Holmes (Lori Bell) of Boise, ID, Brenda (Chris) Biery of Dunedin, FL, Rhonda Thomasson of Newton, IA and Paula Holmes of Dunedin, FL her three grandchildren, Jill (Dennis) Krieger, Drew Thomasson, Luke Biery; and her brother, Ben “Butch” (Elaine) Cobbs, Jr. of Maryville, TN. Martina was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Charlie Hawkins. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. No services are planned. Memorials may be designated to the Centre for Arts and Artists in Newton and may be left at the funeral home.
