Winona Evalee was born October 26, 1933 in Macon County, MO to Frank and Ella (Cheeseman) Hammons and passed away from life on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at the age of 81. Winona graduated from Ethel, Missouri High School at age 16 in 1950. After attending NE Missouri State Teacher's College, she taught four years in Missouri. Winona moved to Knoxville, IA for better pay and after four years to Newton, IA. Winona and Dean Sill were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church on December 29, 1961, in Newton, IA. To this union were born Rodger, Verlyn and Ellen. After the children had all started school, Winona earned a BA from Drake University and taught in Monroe, IA. Before retiring in 1994, Winona taught a total of 35 years. Since January 6, 2014, Winona has resided at Park Centre, Garden View. Winona was a devoted wife and mother and if she had a failing, it was her generous nature. Winona is survived by her husband, three children, eight grandchildren, one brother, and one sister. Per Winona's wishes, her remains will be cremated. There will be no visitation but a memorial service will be held at a later date. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
