Obituary of David LeRoy Mills

A Celebration of Life Services for David L. Mills, 71, will be held 1:30 p.m.., Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the Newton Salvation Army Citadel. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the services. Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left in David’s name. David LeRoy Mills, the son of Elmer J. and Genevieve (Pinegar) Mills, was born February 25, 1943, in Iowa City. On December 29, 1969, Dave was united in marriage with Wanda Fink in Newton. A longtime resident of the Newton area, Dave was employed by the Newton Daily News as a carrier. He enjoyed the peaceful life, devoting his life to his family. He was a member of the Newton Salvation Army, enjoyed music and his harmonica. Dave entered into the gates of Glory on January 5, 2015, at his home, with his son Mike at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-son Robert Dean “Bobby” Talbot Jr. on May 23, 2011. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Those left to honor Dave’s memory include his wife Wanda; his son Michael S. Mills; daughters: Michelle Oswalt and Sabrina Gooding; his grandchildren: Christina Oswalt and Marcus Oswalt; his brothers and sisters: Dorothy Ulrey, Marjorie Wylie, James Mills, Jack Mills, Tom Mills, Robert Mills, Donald Mills, Barbara Knutsen, Carroll Mills, Ernie Mills; and his many friends.
