Funeral services for Herman will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 19, at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and as an expression of sympathy, memorials in Herman's name are being designated; to Shiners Crippled Children's Hospital in St. Paul, MN or Willowbrook Adult Daycare in Newton.
Herman "Jiggs" Jagau Jr., 84, the son of Herman T. and Eva Mae (Haines) Jagau, was born June 18, 1925 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from the Marshalltown schools. Herman had served his country with the US Navy, during World War II.
On July 2, 1948, Herman was united in marriage with Marilyn Jane Lawless in Council Bluffs, Iowa. To this union two children were given, Jim and Connie. A longtime resident of the Newton area, Herman was employed by the Maytag Company. He retired in 1979 as a conveyor technician, after 30.4 years of service. He devoted his life to his family and friends, and was a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge #59 AF & AM for 54 years, Newton York Rite Bodies, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Jasper County Shrine (Jokers), Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Clowns (Lifetime Member) and was a volunteer fireman in Newton for 36 years. He enjoyed bowling, was a member of the Jasper County Bowling Association, an avid gardener and was an original Little League Manager in the 1950's.
Herman died on Thursday afternoon, April 15, 2010, in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Migliaccio.
Those left to honor Herman's memory include his wife of sixty-one years, Marilyn; his son Jim Jagau of Newton, his daughter Connie Jagau of Newton; and his many good friends.
Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery, Newton on Tuesday at .
