Obituary of Bonnie Sue Burnett

Bonnie Sue Burnett, the daughter of Walter Hobbs and Charline Florence Mace Hobbs Kingma, was born April 18, 1939, in Newton. She was a graduate of then Newton Senior High, Class of 1957, she also attended the University of Minnesota. Bonnie was employed as a Certified Nurse Assistant in Minneapolis, MN; at Skiff Medical Center in Newton and as a private home care aid. On June 30, 1967, Bonnie was united in marriage with Richard Charles Burnett in Newton. She devoted her life to her family and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton, where she was baptized in 1955. She enjoyed reading, traveling, collecting angels and antiquing. She collected clothing, furniture and household goods for their distribution to the needy. She was a cerebral palsy adviser, kidney foundation member and adviser and foster parent. She was involved in prison ministries, as a mentor to inmates, ex-inmates and their families through bible studies and interchange freedom initiative. She served on The CURE board, was a charter member of Silver Wheels Car Club, Church Women United and American Baptist Women, where she was the president for twelve years. Bonnie died at her home on Monday, November 7, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Larry Hobbs; and a nephew, Louis Hobbs. Those left to honor Bonnie's memory include her husband, Richard C. Burnett of Newton; her son, Rick Burnett of Newton; her sister, Pat Leer; many nieces and nephews; and her many friends. Memorial services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, November 10th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends following the service at the Pence ~ Reese Tribute Center. Memorials may be designated to Skiff Hospice.
