Obituary of Larry Lee Hanson

Larry L. Hanson Newton Larry Lee Hanson,, 75, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 20, 2011, at his home in Newton. Memorial services for Larry will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at the Newton Salvation Army Citadel. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held one hour, prior to the services at the Citadel. In lieu of flowers memorials in Larry's name are being designated, and may be left at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Veteran's section at Newton Union Cemetery. Larry, the son of Andrew Hanson and Ellen Macy, was born March 13, 1936, near Lynnville. He had attended Lynnville-Sully Schools. Larry served his country with the US Army, during the Korean Conflict. A longtime resident of the Newton area, he was employed as a construction worker in Jasper County. On Aug. 26, 1977, Larry was united in marriage with Opal Purscell in Newton. He devoted his life to his family and friends. Larry enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting mushrooms. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-brothers: Donald Manley and George Manley Jr.; and a step-sister Crystal Crady. Those left to honor Larry's memory include his wife Opal; his four sons: Charles Hanson, Chris Hanson, Kevin Hanson and Michael Hanson; three daughters: Kimberly Geisinger, Donna Smithhart and Melinda Behrens; his eighteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; his very special friend Donna Graves; and many friends.
