Obituary of Gary Dwaine Pherigo

Gary Dwaine Pherigo, 65, the son of Bobby Dwaine and Mary Jane (Knapp) Pherigo, was born February 25, 1959, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.  He graduated from the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1977.   

   On June 14, 1980, Gary was united in marriage to Jacqueline “Jackie” Anne Chambers in Newton. 

   Gary enjoyed sharing his home life with Jackie and loved the time spent with her, his daughters and his grandchildren.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was employed in the Porcelain Department at Maytag, retiring in 2007.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father, old Sci-fi and Westerns, was a music enthusiast, loved his animals and classic cars. 

   Gary died Thursday morning, February 29, 2024, at his home.  He was preceded in death by his father Bobby.  A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at a later date. 

   Those left to honor Gary’s memory include his wife Jackie; his mother Mary Jane Pherigo; his daughters: Michelle Pherigo and Nicole Pherigo; his grandchildren: Amaya Cox, Jude Harris, Landon McNair and Joseph Street; his sisters: Becky Beston, Vickie  Van Steenwyk and Sandy Pherigo; his sisters-in-law, Cheri (Mike) Brown, Christine Churchill (Jim Warrick); a special adopted son Brice Peters; his nieces, nephews and cousins; and his many extended family and friends.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Gary’s family and mailed to Jackie at 705 E. 14th St. N. Newton, IA  50208 or a charity of your choosing.
