Obituary of Arnold "Duke" Vincent Schnoebelen

Arnold "Duke" Schnoebelen, 78, the son of Louis Vincent and Zieta Marie Smith Schnoebelen, was born October 4, 1931 in Iowa City, Iowa. He grew up in Hills, IA, graduated from University High in Iowa City in 1953 and graduated from the University of Iowa. On December 27, 1952, Duke was united in marriage with Joan Marie Stover at St. Patrick's Church in Iowa City. Duke served in the US Army from 1953 - 1955. He had worked for the Maytag Company in Newton as Manager, Product Planning, retiring in 1993. Duke enjoyed working in his yard and working with wood. Duke died on Monday, August 16, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey Alan and his brothers, Robert, Milton and Orval. Those left to honor Duke's memory include his wife, Joan of Newton; his sons, Steve (Betty) of Battle Creek, MI, David (Sheri) of Caldwell, ID, Donald (Debbie) of Kellogg, IA; his daughters, Janet (Kevin) Sherlock of Newton, IA, Laura Rhoads of Squaw Valley, CA; his thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; his sisters, Joy (Bill) Greene of Sequim, WA, Marie Bidlake of Sequim, WA; and his brother, Yaro (Irene) Schnoebelen of Vancouver, WA. Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 20th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Family will greet friends following the service at the Tribute Center. Memorials may be designated in Arnold's name and left at the funeral home.
