Obituary of Merita Marie Dammeier

Merita Dammeier, the daughter of Lewis and Grace (Walker) Dammeier, was born November 11, 1934 in rural Newton, Iowa. She attended country grade school and then was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1953. She was a member of the Foursquare Church. She was a graduate of Life Bible College in Los Angeles, California, majoring in Christian Education.

While living in California, she worked for the Federal Reserve Bank, and Foursquare Publications in Los Angeles, Bethany Church in Alhambra. She worked for McGinley and Co. CPA Firm in San Marino from 1974-2003. In late 2003, she retired and returned to Newton. However, she went back to California each year (January – April) to work at McGinley and Co. until 2014.

Merita died on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Newton Village Healthcare Center in Newton, Iowa. She was 90 years old. Merita was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Derald Dammeier; her sisters, Vera Boles, Hilma McKinney, Luella Bragg, Roma Mosier, Marceda Romick; a brother-in-law, Larry Romick and a few nieces and nephews.

Those left to honor Merita's memory include her brother, Murry (Diane) Dammeier; her sister, Arlene Boyer; a brother-in-law, Don McKinney; and many nieces and nephews.

Merita was loved by all her siblings, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton, Iowa. A Facebook Live Broadcast will begin at 1:30 p.m.on the Pence Reese Funeral Home Facebook page. Memorials may be designated to the Newton Foursquare Church and may be left at the Pence Reese Funeral Home.
