Jerold “Jerry” 73, of Kellogg, passed away Thursday evening, December 21, 2017, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa.

   A funeral service for Jerry will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation one hour prior to services.  Pastor Joel Picard, of Our Savior Lutheran Church, will conduct the services.  Burial will be at a later date in Webster City.  Memorials are being designated to the family in Jerry’s name, and may be left at the funeral home.

  Jerold Howard “Jerry” Holkan, the son of Howard Melvin and Vera (Deimel) Holkan, was born September 1, 1944, in Webster City, Iowa.  He graduated from Lincoln High in Webster City, Class of 1962.  He severed his country with the IOWA National Guard, for six years.

   On August 28, 1980, Jerry and Kathrein Rocena Reeley were united in marriage at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton.  A resident of the Kellogg area since 1963, he had devoted his life to his family and friends.  He was employed by Maytag, 27 years in the Maintenance Department, retiring July 2003.  He also worked for the Newton Daily News, 4.5 years, retiring in 2017.  Jerry was a kind and warm hearted man, and always ready to help, and will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved him.  He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Moose.   He enjoyed volunteering at the Iowa State Fair for 22 years, supported the American Cancer Society, enjoyed gardening and his love of old cars.   Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Kathrein on June 8, 2012; brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Eppard; several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

   He is survived by his children: Mike Helton, Jeff Helton, Chris Holkan; Step Children: Kathy Rudkin, Kristy Miller, Kenny Miller; several grandchildren and great grand-children; his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Eppard (Thomas) Pilcher; Cousin Corrie (Gary) Baker of Madrid; Aunts, Dolores Fitzgibbon, Carrollyn Deimel, Uncles, Gary Deimel, Dale (Bess) Deimel, Wilbur (Charlotte) Deimel, Cousins, Vicki (Jim) Olson, Pam Fitzgibbon, Jan Eich, Susan (Landon) Gemmel, and many more, Connie, Beverly, Patty, Kenny, Denny to name a few; Kathy's brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and his many friends
